INCLUSIVE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT–IED(SCOTTISH GOVT./CA: 2010- 2016)
The Scottish Government/CA worked with VICALP in partnership with Christian Aid, New Delhi, and the Scottish Government to promote Inclusive Economic Development (IED) from 2010 to 2016. A project called Inclusive Economic Development (IED) was carried out by the International Development Fund (UK) with around 3,000 small-scale turmeric producers from 30 tribal and Dalit communities in Kandhaml, Odisha. Through input assistance and capacity building, the initiativeorganised the turmeric growers and promoted improved agricultural methods.
In order to collectivize their produce and reach out to higher markets they registered a FarmerProducers’Organization (FPO) "Jaiva Jeevan Producer Company Ltd. (JJPCL)".This small-scale business entity "Jaiva JeevanProducer Company Ltd. benefited farmers by organising them into Common Interest Groups (CIGs). In addition to giving farmers the ability to jointly control their businesses, the IED intervention enabled them to build the infrastructure and skills necessary for processing, value addition, end-market connection, and company diversification into other agri-products. In the end, it increased their revenue and freed them from the grasp of shady trade and commercial associations.
